Lack of contact in a lubricated system

چکیده
We consider the problem of a rigid surface moving over a flat plane. The surfaces are separated by a small gap filled by a lubricant fluid. The relative position of the surfaces is unknown except for the initial time t = 0. The total load applied over the upper surface is a know constant for t > 0. The mathematical model consists in a coupled system formed by Reynolds variational inequality for incompressible fluids and Newtons second Law. In this paper we study the global existence and uniqueness of solutions of the evolution problem when the position of the surface presents only one degree of freedom, under extra assumptions on its geometry. The existence of steady states is also studied.

Application of the method of multiple scales for nonlinear vibration analysis of mechanical systems with dry and lubricated clearance joints
In this study, the method of multiple scales is used to perform a nonlinear vibration analysis of a mechanical system in two cases; with dry and lubricated clearance joints. In the dry contact case, the Lankarani-Nikravesh model is used to represent the contact force between the joined bodies. The surface elasticity is modeled as a nonlinear spring-damper element. Primary resonance is discussed...
متن کاملHigh Frequency Elastic Wave Emission Caused by a Single Elastohydrodynamically Lubricated Contact Fundamental sources and Principles
Elastohydrodynamically lubricated (EHL) contacts are fundamental for several rotating machine elements. For example gears, rolling element bearings and lubricated chain drives work due to the principle of EHL. All of these machine elements require maintenance and, as condition based maintenance has increased in industry, the need for monitoring techniques has also increased. In order to avoid i...
متن کاملInfluence of roughness on ZDDP tribofilm formation in boundary lubricated fretting
Influence of initial surface topography on tribofilm formation in ZDDP lubricated contact was analysed. A small displacement fretting tests with sinusoidal motion were carried out in classical sphere/plane configuration. A range of surfaces with different initial roughness were prepared by milling and grinding processes. Tests were carried out using variable displacement method where amplitude ...
متن کاملTEM characterisation of near surface deformation resulting from lubricated sliding wear of aluminium alloy and composites
Aluminium alloy composites have been extensively investigated for use in tribo-contact applications, however little detailed literature exists on the sub-surface microstructural evolution as a result of lubricated sliding wear. In this study two un-reinforced alloys (2124 & 5056) and identical alloy composites, reinforced with 15vol.% MoSi2 intermetallic particles were produced by a powder meta...
متن کاملMultilevel solution of the elastohydrodynamically lubricated circular contact problem Part I: theory and numerical algorithm
This paper describes a fast numerical solver for the elastohydrodynamically lubricated circular contact problem. As a result of the application of multigrid techniques the algorithm is of very low complexity, ie. O(n In n), where n is the number of nodes on the grid. Consequently, it enables the solution of the problem using large numbers of nodes (O(10’)) on a small-capacity computer, as is de...
